Best Practices: Advisory Group 2009 |
CDS held its annual Advisory Group meeting in Plymouth, MA the last week of July. The group helps CDS evaluate its current and future initiatives and provides valuable insight into industry trends. The productive two-day meeting included presentations, discussions and demonstrations as well as time for some recreation and socializing in historic Plymouth.
Guest Speaker Michael Hughes, Vice President, Research & Consulting, Tradeshow Week Magazine & Custom Research, presented facts about the state of the industry and indicators of recovery. The presentation included eye-opening statistics gathered from attendee and exhibitor surveys that showed what programs and efforts by show management were most effective. The presentation reinforced the idea that, while attendance numbers may be down, the quality of attendees from an exhibitor’s perspective are at their highest, historic levels.
The meeting was a big success and we’re busily incorporating the information and advice from the meeting into our corporate game plan for the coming year and beyond.

Social Media Handbook |
In an effort to help show management leverage the power of social media for their events, CDS unveiled its Social Media Handbook at the 2009 Advisory Group. The handbook, available to all CDS clients, identifies the major social media avenues, provides management and utilization advice, and includes step-by-step instructions on working with social media including blogs, micro-blogs, photo, video and live-casting web sites.
Most important, the handbook explains the nature of social media as based on audience participation and explains how to understand, cultivate and track contributions from the event community. For a copy of the Social Media Handbook, contact your Account Executive or email nknight@cdsreg.com.

Product Showcase I: Registration Abandonment Follow-up |
Registration Abandonment Follow-up is an email sent to potential registrants who start but do not complete the registration process. Registration Abandonment Follow-up is available with all new CDS event registration pages at no additional charge.
When a registrant completes at least the first page of an X•Press Event registration form—the page that collects name and contact information—but does not complete the registration process, an email is automatically sent requesting that they return to complete registration. Upon returning, the registrant’s information is prefilled, making for a simple and speedy registration process. The new program has already begun to yield results which can be monitored using the new ROI report that tracks program success.

Process Upate: Business Teams |
Building on the success of the Business Team concept that gave individual event “ownership” to teams of Registration, Information Services and Quality Assurance staff members, the CDS teams have been expanded to include representatives from the Data and Financial Processing Departments.
Expansion of the teams to include these important processing functions centralizes event knowledge and accountability for individual shows into a single team environment. The team has the flexibility and control over their event assignments that allows them to make decisions and execute changes faster than ever. Sharing of information between Business Teams allows best practices and successful processes to be implemented from event-to-event, making our employees’ and clients’ vast experience available to all CDS managed events.
