The 5th Annual Douglas J. Fletcher Golf Tournament
The 5th Annual Douglas J. Fletcher Golf Tournament took place on September 15th, 2011 and was a huge success. The tournament raised $27,000 to benefit the National Marine Life Center (NMLC), a cause near and dear to Doug Fletcher’s heart.

Convention Data Services’ Golf Committee, led by newly appointed President & CEO, John Kimball, presented the donation check to Kathy Zagzebski, President & Executive Director of the National Marine Life Center on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the center’s headquarters in Buzzards Bay, MA.

We’d like to give a special thanks to all our clients, partners, vendors and friends that contributed generously to the tournament. For a complete list of our sponsors, please visit the tournament website.

Going Mobile

CDS was an early adopter of mobile technology for events and we have continued developing solutions and partnering with industry leaders in order to build a complete suite of mobile products.

Since the introduction of our LeadApp in 2010, we have rolled out mobile reporting, show guide integrations and text conversations. This Fall, CDS has added three new attendee products to our mobile lineup including the Registration Resource Center, Mobile Inquiry Page and tablet ready registration. Also ready for 2012 events is version 2 of our popular LeadApp.

CDS’ mobile strategy is always on the move and ready to keep up with your mobile audience. Read more about our new mobile products in this newsletter and contact your Account Executive for a demonstration.

Registration Resource Center (RRC)

The Mobile RRC is a version of our browser-based attendee registration portal that fits in the palm of your hand. Attendees can manage their registration, promote your event to their colleagues and fly through a paper free check-in onsite.

Attendees can...
• Review and update their registration information
• Send registration confirmations to multiple emails
• Display an eBadge for fast onsite check-in
• Invite colleagues through email and social media sites
• Access mobile housing information

Mobile Inquiry Page

The Mobile Inquiry allows attendees at this year’s event, to quickly and simply sign-up for next year’s event. Attendees open the mobile website by scanning a QR code and then enter their badge or basic contact information. When registration opens for the upcoming event, an email is sent with a link to a pre-populated registration form.

It’s easy to help your attendees get started. Place the QR code—and URL—on signs, in e-newsletters, email signatures or anywhere attendees interact with your event. Ask your Account Executive how to include this powerful prospecting tool in your event registration package.

X•Press AutoDialer

X•Press AutoDialer is an automated, outbound calling system to contact attendees and prospects with a recorded show message. The calling system is a powerful promotional tool utilizing phone numbers which are more permanent than email addresses. The spoken message is memorable and delivers information clearly adding a new dimension to your event marketing. Using registrant profiles, you can customize your calls to deliver just the right message.

The system can call ten people simultaneously and place additional calls to recipients not available during the first round of calls. Call recipients are able to transfer to a live attendant during business hours. The system can also be set to deliver a survey or collect feedback. All call times, outcomes and interactive results are included as part of the campaign reports.

Benefits:
• Increases event exposure
• Increases attendee and exhibitor registrations
• Increases lead retrieval sales
• Decreases inbound support calls and emails
• Collects recipient feedback
• Customizable messages based on registrant profiles
• Pre-built and scheduled campaigns run automatically
• Higher response rates than email or direct mail
• Uses phone numbers which are less transient than emails
• Fast implementation—no staff to train, can run anytime

CAPTCHA in Registration

CAPTCHAs, or Completely Automated Public Turing Tests to Tell Computers and Humans Apart, exist to ensure that user input in online forms has not been generated by a computer. One of the most common applications of the technology is the stylistic letters that users are asked to type in at the end of a form.

In 2012, CDS is going to incorporate CAPTCHA technology on the payment pages of our registration forms in order to block spammers and bots (programs that fill out forms automatically) from completing registration. We have chosen two effective methods that are simple and unobtrusive for event registrants.

The first method puts hidden fields on our forms that real people will not see but that bots will fill-in thus identifying themselves as non-human. The second method replaces the “submit” button with a “slider” that requires registrants to slide a graphic from “start” to “continue” in order to submit the form—bots are unable to click and drag like a user can with their mouse.

X•Press Reports Browser Compatibility

The X•Press Reports system has been updated to work on all major browsers and operating systems. Compatible browsers now include Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera. Features including the calendar popups and filter selections were updated to work the same on all browsers. Aesthetic changes were also made for a consistent experience for all users. No functionality was changed in the system.
